Sprouting

Sprouts are a rich source of vitamins & nutrients.  During the sprouting process nutrient levels are increased- making sprouts richer in protein, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese and vitamins than un-sprouted plants.  Photo: Shows Broccoli sprouts I've grown using trays with Hemp mat- enabling you to grow quantity at a time.

Growing instructions for tray method with hemp mats:

*Soak about 3/4 cup of seeds- (depending on size of seed, but enough to fill the tray without overlapping.  Soak for about 6-8hrs

*Drain, rinse and drain completely (do not re-soak)

*Spray with purified water twice a day.  Ensure mat is not saturated but has some moisture and you spray just the seeds/sprouts.

*Day 3 move to indirect sunlight and continue to spray- maybe only once a day (depending on conditions).  The trick is to keep the sprout moist but the mat not really wet and allow adequate ventilation and warmth- sun (but not direct sun).

*Harvest depends on the seed but about day 5-7.  Some seeds will re-grow for a 2nd harvest (especially Pea- these are very hardy).  Cut about 2/3rds - leaving a little above the seed for it to re-grow.

Eat in salads, stirfries or just on their own.  I prefer to keep mine raw to maximise nutrients

Note: Also possible to grow without the hemp mats, using tissue to lay the seeds on.  However you will need to pay close attention to the seeds more often to ensure they are constantly wet.  Once they dry out, you're cooked unfortunately.
